Julie Ackley is the new Physical Education teacher at BCES.  She just finished up her 9th year of teaching.  She has taught 2 years of high school (Spring Hill High School), 3 years of elementary (Highland Park Elementary) and 4 years of middle school (Whitthorne Middle School).  

She does not perceive Physical Education as an organized recess.  Her responsibility as a Physical Education teacher are, in her opinion, among the most important in the school.  She firmly believes all of her students are special and possess a wide variety of talent and skills.  It is her mission to expose her students to a wide variety of activities, as to encourage him, or her, to discover and enhance these skills.  As a professional educator, she will present these activities in a positive and professional manner, as to maximize the self-esteem and the self-confidence of her students.  As a result of physical education, her students will learn that physical fitness is crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, not only now, but for the rest of their lives. 

She has attended and presented at multiple local, state and national SHAPE conferences where she loves to go and learn new and exciting things. She was chosen to serve at the MCPS county PE mentor.  She has served on her previous schools Leadership Teams, coach of multiple sports and was the Huddle Coach for FCA.  

She has a wonderful husband who is also a teacher and 2 amazing children! In her spare 
time she loves to spend time with her family (especially being outside) and read.

Mary Karboviak is a high energy, enthusiastic, young professional with an excitement and passion for what she does.  Music has always been a part of her life and her favorite subject in school.  She was raised in a military family which took her all over the USA and overseas to Turkey.  She studied music education in North Dakota at The University of North Dakota.  She spent the first two years of her career teaching Pre K-12 grade band, choir and elementary music in Drayton, ND.  She moved with her husband Kelton to the Spring Hill area in June 2018, and worked for a year at Trinity Elementary in Williamson County as a part-time music teacher and math tutor.  She is so excited to meet everyone get the Battle Creek Elementary School music program off to a great start
